Nadia Duncan is an actress and singer based in New York City. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Musical Theatre at NYU Steinhardt (’23). Nadia obtained her Bachelor of Arts at SUNY Purchase College (’19), with a major in Theatre & Performance and a minor in Classical Voice.

Nadia, a Northern Virginia native, grew up fully immersed in the arts. Her mother, Thembi Duncan, is a prolific actress, director, and arts administrator who worked in the DMV theatre community for nearly 20 years. In 2014, Nadia began her performance training at the Adventure Theatre MTC Pre-Professional Program. During her time at ATMTC, Nadia was chosen to perform in the 2014 Ford’s Theatre Presidential Gala and was subsequently cast in her first professional musical as “Ayah” in NextStop Theatre Company’s 2015 production of The Secret Garden. By then a high school senior, Nadia would go on to enter SUNY Purchase College’s renowned undergraduate Theatre program at the end of that year.

At SUNY Purchase, Nadia studied under such luminaries as Jordan Schildcrout, Imani Douglas, Brendan McMahon, David Bassuk, Lenora Champagne, Heather Harpham, Ronni Stewart, Jill Echo, Hugh Murphy, and Bonnie Hamilton. During her freshman year, she immediately became involved in independent student productions and was accepted from an internal audition into the prestigious Purchase Opera program through the Conservatory of Music. As a sophomore, Nadia would dazzle audiences as “Marta” in an independent production of Sondheim’s Company, directed by Sean Britton-Milligan. In the fall of 2017, during her junior year, she was featured as a company member in the Theatre and Performance MainStage’s production of Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric, guest-directed by the inimitable Whitney White. She would return to the Theatre and Performance MainStage that spring for Chuck Mee’s Orestes 2.0, guest-directed by SITI Company’s G.M. Gianino, in which she played the devilish “Nurse 1” and sang a stirring rendition of Cassandra’s aria from “Les Troyens.” For her senior thesis project, she was the Executive Producer and star of a landmark production of No Strings that was performed, directed, and designed by students of Theatre, Music, and Dance at SUNY Purchase. After her final bow as “Barbara,” Nadia graduated Cum Laude in May of 2019.

In March of 2019, running concurrently with her final project at SUNY Purchase, Nadia made her Off-Broadway debut as “The Young Girl” in The Young Girl, The Devil, and The Mill, the English language premier of Olivier Py’s classic fairytale adaptation. The Young Girl was presented at Florence Gould Hall through a partnership between Festival D’Avignon and the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF). Through this production, Nadia became a member of the Actor’s Equity Association.

In August 2019, Nadia obtained representation from Renée Glicker of About Artists Agency INC, a premier theatrical agency in NYC.

In September 2021, Nadia began her graduate musical theatre studies at the prestigious New York University Steinhardt School. As part of the MMVP Musical Theatre program, she studies acting, voice, and dance under distinguished faculty including Erin Ortman, Herschel Garfein, Maximilien Baud, and Alexander Gemignani.
